AGC 190 August 21st 2014 (Remembrances, and GenCon Part 1) (38:57)

With Mark Kinney. Mark is training for a new job, so things are changing around here for a bit. Remembering Robin Williams, P.G. Holyfield, and Dave Barrett. Mark does realize the possible tastelessness of basing a DriveThruRPG pick on something connected to the latter of the three -- but there is at least an actual connection there. GenCon -- breaking records, big buzz on 5th Edition D&D, other stand outs? Dark Dungeons came out, too. The interviews! Yumi Hoashi from Konami talks about upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! products and the events at GenCon. Chris Engle from Hamster Press talks about his new games, some artistic stuff, and some specialty games he worked up. Meg McGinley tells us about her recently Kickstarter-funded game Pack the Pack.

AGC 189 August 1st 2014 (DND5EOMGWTFBBQ) (1:19:33)

With Mark Kinney, Carol, and Mags. Mags knows her internet acronyms. A little ENnies talk, with congrats to our fellow nominees. RPG Buffet changes! "Pig roast? Meh." Mark is going to run Doctor Who for the RPG Buffet. DriveThru Picks. An in depth look at Basic D&D. Three pillars of adventure. We keep jumping ahead, on proficiency bonuses and equipment. Character classes and a glance at pseudo-Vancian magic. Mags tells us what she *really* thinks about Vancian magic, and Mark harkens back to 4th edition for his ideal magic. Were some feats folded into character options? Rejecting the gender binary. Ideals, Bonds, and Flaws. Backgrounds. Stuff you can't do yet. Getting into the rules. Proficiency bonus and advantage/disadvantage. Damage and healing. Back to magic. What wasn't in these rules. Is a table of contents too much to ask? Well, it could depend on what you use to read PDFs, too. The potato salad Kickstarter -- what does it mean for us?
