The original Manchurian Candidate is a MUST see!!!! The remake can't hold a candle to the original! Good performances in the remake, but the script pales in comparison on every front!
GURPS was mentioned in passing as having done something, with no titles mentioned. Their Action series directly emulates the modern action/espionage genre. It includes no setting information, but has excellent player and GM advice for making the genre work and easy to run.
You mentioned briefly that GURPS had probably done something related to espionage. In addition to the book of that title, there is a newer series titled "Action" that is a worthwhile purchase for anybody trying to run modern espionage/action games, in or out of GURPS. It has excellent advice on shortcuts to take to make your game more like the modern action movie or TV show.
Uh, Avengers--Patrick Macnee, not Patrick McGoohan.
I might also mention Hopscotch, which was a hard-boiled spy novel that got made into a much lighter movie staring Walter Matthau, Glenda Jackson, and Ned Beatty.
Oh, and the Bruce Willis The Jackal--it sucked hosewater.
