AGC 130 May 25th 2010 (Live For Five!) (1:18:51)

With Mark Kinney, Carol and Mags. Five years, not five episodes. Technical difficulties with UStream, or the local router, or something. A lot of Dresen Files is going down. Shopping. HyperiCon! Obituaries for Frank Franzetta and J. Eric Holmes (and Ronnie James Dio). Thanks for helping spread the word (and the Fringeworthy podcast, although unmentioned in the show, helped as well). Reviews: Mark talks about d20 Fringeworthy, and Carol looks at the Goodman Games Dragonborn book. As we move to the less structured part of the episode, Mags confuses Gordon Litefoot and George Thorogood. How AGC got started. LARP stuff. Changes in the industry through the years. AGC highlights (and lowlights) from Big Damn Review Shows to Shaken Not Stirred. Why Mags The Axe? An upcoming All Flesh Must Be Eaten game. Feedback! Giving away an autographed champaign cork to a lucky chatroom inhabitant for no reaily apparent reason. Live again for New Years? The longest "blooper reel" EVAR!

Live for Five!

Tomorrow is the big day (or today, if you're reading this on Tuesday...)

This is the place.

We'll crank up the works starting around 8pm Eastern time (or Midnight starting into the 19th, UTC, if I'm reading that right), start with some reviews, then settle down for a look back at the last five years, and maybe try getting some special guests in on the fun.

Hope to see you there!

AGC Going Live for Five!

Longtime listeners will no doubt be aware that All Games Considered is approaching it's five-year anniversary! If you had ever told me it would last this long...

Well, anyway.

We're celebrating with a live show, to run over UStream, on Tuesday, May 18th, 2010, starting at 8pm Eastern time. We expect to do a few reviews, and then reminisce on the last five years, and hope our listeners, past as well as current, will join us! The audio, of course, will go out about a week later.

We're still ironing out a few technical details, so please check back to see what the final process and URL and all will be. In the meantime, if you're a podcaster, we hope you'll play this less-than-30-second promo (it's going out over the feed as well) if you have a show dropping between now and the 18th.

Thank you again, everyone out there -- we couldn't do this without you!

RPG Buffet 7 (Year of D&D Part 3: 2nd Edition AD&D in Greyhawk) (14:51)

With Mags and the RPG Buffet. Mags runs 2nd Edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons for the RPG Buffet, with an adventure set in Greyhawk.

Here is John's lamb stew recipe:

Ingredients:
1 large onion, chopped (or substitute 2 tablespoons of Hing)
3.5 tablespoons of olive oil
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 pounds boneless lamb for stew, cut into 2" cubes
2 tablespoons sugar
3 cans (14.5 ounces each) beef broth
3 tablespoons tomato paste
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chopped thyme leaves
1 tablespoon fresh chopped rosemary leaves
2 bay leaves
1 pound carrots, peeled and cut into 2" chunks
1 pound potatoes, cut into 2" chunks
1 package (10 ounces) frozen peas

Cook and stir onion in 1.5 teaspoons olive oil in large skillet over medium heat until clarified. Add to slow cooker. (For those with onion allergies, skip this step).

Mix flour with salt and pepper in large bowl. Dredge lamb in flour mixture. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add lamb. (For those with onion allergies, also add Hing). Cook lamb until browned on all sides. Add sugar. Mix well to coat meat. Cook several more minutes until meat is carmelized. Add to slow cooker.

Add broth to skillet and boil over high heat, scraping sides and bottom of pan to loosen browned bits. Add tomato paste, garlic, thyme, rosemary, and bay leaves. Stir to combine. Pour over meat mixture in slow cooker.

Add potatoes and carrots. Cover. Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours; or until vegetable and lamb are tender.

Add peas and cook 30 minutes more. Remove and discard bay leave before serving.

and Misty's Venison Stew:

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 pounds venison stew meat
3 onions, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon salt
3 cups water

Cook in pressure cooker for 60 minutes at 15 lbs pressure. Then add:
7 small potatoes, peeled and quartered
1 pound carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces

Cooked at pressure for another 25 minutes.

Finally, combine flour and water. Stir into the stew to thicken. Remove bay leaf before serving.
