Chris got revised Tales From The Wood and It's A Dogs Life. Clarifications and updates on the Shadowrun situation. Chris brings up the new Shadowrun video game and Catan on the XBox 360. Mark is going to HyperiCon. GenCon podcasting track. A weekly show is a future possibility. Gaming For Cheap Bastards: Free RPG Day! Carol remembers White Wolf's Changeling Trailer Contest. In May, the RPG Buffet did a Potato Bar for supper.

Potato Bars are easy and nutritious. One member cooks the potatoes, and everyone else contributes toppings. John, our Shadowrun 3rd ed GM, prepared them in his crockpot thusly:

INGREDIENTS:

* 12 potatoes, more or less
* foil for wrapping potatoes

PREPARATION:
Prick potatoes with fork and wrap each potato in foil. Fill dry crockpot with the wrapped potatoes. Cover and cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours, until potatoes are tender. Prick with a fork to check.

You can put just about anything you like on a baked potato. Below are some suggestions for toppings:

* Assorted shredded meat toppings, such as turkey, chicken, or ham
* Chili, shredded barbeque, or other meaty sauce
* Stroganoff or beef tips
* Bacon bits
* Smoked salmon
* Flaked tuna
* Broccoli, cooked
* Assorted shredded cheeses (cheddar, Monterey Jack, etc.)
* Minced garlic
* Sour cream
* Butter
* Salsa or pico de gallo
* Green onions
* Chives
* Mushrooms, sauteed

AGC 44 February 3 2007 (Tribe 8) (1:07:38)

With Mark Kinney, Chris Heim, and Carol. Carol Skypes in with the Zorkian Death Flu. Technical difficulties, yay! Gaming For Cheap Bastards: Ogre Lite! Looking at Fudge or FATE in the future. Tribe 8 world overview. Games You May Never Have Heard Of: Dream Pod 9/Jovian Chronicles! Tribe 8 mechanics. RPG Buffet: All Flesh Must Be Eaten! Chris' big announcement. An aside about The Dresden Files. Pan's Labyrinth.

From Marsha on the RPG Buffet segment:
"Meanwhile, here's the details on the Gamer Ribs with Chimichurri sauce.

Pork ribs are easy to do and very flavorful, so I heartily recommend them for any gaming group looking to have a nice, filling meal. Due to time constraints, I opted to cook the Buffet's pork ribs in my slow-cooker (a.k.s. Crock-Pot [tm]). Slow-cooking is a great option for ribs because the meat is amazingly tender by the end of the cooking time, and of course you can just put them in the slow-cooker on LOW in the morning, and by the time you return home from work eight-to-ten hours later, they're done.

Just rinse the ribs when they come out of the package, salt and pepper them to taste, lay them in the slow-cooker, and turn it on at the LOW setting. Cook for 8-10 hours. If you opt to se your oven instead, slow-roast them for about 75-90 minutes at 375 degrees.

Naturally, pork ribs can be served with your favorite barbeque sauce, or such meat condiments as worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or wine-and-pepper sauce. But for a really great condiment that a lot of people have never tried, I recommend chimichurri.

Chimichurri is an condiment served with grilled meat in Argentinian cuisine (it can also be used as a marinade for grilled meat). There's literally thousands of different recipes for it, but at it's base chimichurri is olive oil and wine-vinegar based, with fresh herbs such as parsley and oregano, and spices such as paprika and red pepper.

According to Wikipedia, the overall compositions, taste and preparation are derived from Genovese pesto. Chimichurri is very easy to make; the batch I made I prepared right before serving the ribs to the gamers.

I'd tried chimichurri at an Argentinian restaurant here in town, and fell in love with it. I hunted high and low to find a recipe that lookws like it would match what I remember tasting. I found two that came awfully close, so I combined the two recipes posted here as follows:

1 cup (packed) fresh Italian parsley
1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup (packed) fresh cilantro
2 garlic cloves, peeled
3/4 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
3 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped
3 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Sea salt & freshly ground pepper to taste

...into the blender and pureed until smooth. It was a little too sharp for my taste as written, so I added maybe another 1/4 cup olive oil and pureed again.

The result was fantastic. Served in a dish so people could add it to their fresh, hot ribs as desired. The sauce was a hit, and we'll probably have another ribs night again soon.

Please note that I did use all fresh ingredients, and I feel very strongly that it gave the sauce that extra "punch". I'm sure you could substitute dried oregano or parsley, or lemon juice from concentrate, but I doubt you'd get the same effect."

All Apokolipz Considered, with Ty McGowen and Kris McCuller. Jess is gone this week (go figure). AGC 31 July 8 2006 (Time Travel Bits and Unsupported Games) (61:01)

With Mark Kinney and Chris Heim. Mark trashes most of the episode we recorded because it was crap, so the episode topic (time travel) will return later. (And sorry about the rough nature of the first half of this week's podcast, as Audacity crashed on Mark halfway through editing, and he was really sick of hearing all this over and over.) Mark doesn't want to talk about how the leaving to involve himself in the chupacabra plot went. Green Ring Ethos, and particularly it's discussion of Waverly Hills Sanitorium. No listeners locked in the Bastille that we know of. Origins Awards vs Gamers Choice Awards. Vanguard Awards and Hall of Fame. A short glance at Infinite Armies. Take our survey (but not if you already have)! Games You May Never Have Heard Of: Stalkling The Night Fantastic! Carol's as yet unnamed Gaming Tips: Problem Players! Show Survey

While I'm waiting for Carol's segments to come in to post a show, I set up a totally unscientific survey to help figure out where to take the show in the future. The link is over in the sidebar to the right. It's only ten questions, so it will hardly take any time at all.

Thanks!

Show delay

We're back to dialup only here at the high-tech All Games Considered studios, and the show we just recorded is an editing nightmare which will take me four or five hours to finish, and I dread even starting on it.

So, when the confluence of return of internet access and my desire to edit the show occurs, we'll have a new episode. Hopefully that won't be too long, but it's likely to be sometime next week.

The return of Drunken Bastards of Catan. Silven Idol. Carol's segment: game scheduling. Gaming for Cheap Bastards: BrikWars! Christian's somewhat distorted and seeminly truncated military gaming segment (our bad, sorry about that). Military gaming talk. Mark's sparkling research skills strike again. Next episode will be late...

(Okay, I admit I haven't used this like this before, as I understand RSS just enough to not know if I can use this for standard blogging. So, we'll see...)

This weekend's episode will be late, as I'm out where I have no ready high speed internet access for uploading and downloading huge files. As such, it'll be Tuesday, probably, before the next show is out.

Thanks for your patience!
